With so many cultural initiatives in Bergen, Bergen municipality (Bergen kommune) wants to offer all citizens and tourist a digital platform for dissemination of art and culture in the Bergen region. The idea is that the platform captures and makes available cultural data for the entire region to the entire world.

The goal of the hackathon is to create, spark up new ideas, solutions, concepts of a new digital platform to increase accessibility to art and culture data for a larger audience (both physically and digitally). The platform is thought to be a digital place to find information about all cultural events happening in the city, together with possibilities to share, publish and comment content and even more. It is up to you.

The future of the culture and arts, as well as society as a whole, will be characterized by structural changes that are largely linked to an increasing degree of digitization and development of new technology; changes that we have only seen a small glimpse of so far.

The City of Bergen’s new culture and arts plan emphasizes the advantages of art production in this context. As a natural challenger to the established structures of society, art is in a prime position to be at the forefront, both methodically and in the development of content in interaction with new technology. Perhaps more importantly: art can create room for reflection and criticism of the political and social parameters for technological development and the consequences of such developments. The arts therefore have an important role in the process of preparing society for a technological development that will change the way we communicate, learn, work and live our lives.
